Please be advised that this post is intended to give some information about the language assistant program in Perth, Western Australia.
Getting Started
First of all congratulations on your successful appointment as
the Indonesian Language Assistant! I believe some of you must wonder how it
could be you who are appointed, as I did.
As the participant of Indonesian language assistant, you would
receive (or already received) some documents related to your entitlement. Some
of them are: (a) an official email sent by the chair of Balai Bahasa Perth for
being a successful applicant, (b) an email from the department of education
conforming your position and person in charge to your enquiries afterwards
(usually the one who sends you the email). Do read through all the documents
attached as you would be directed to arrange your visa, medical check up, etc.
Arranging Visa Application
Please be advised that the visa that you should apply is “Special
Program Subtitle 416.” Download the application form on https://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/416-sp.aspx
and read carefully all the information.
If it’s possible, do some primary attempt to fill in the forms
with pencils. Some questions that you should aware of are:
(a) hours of work, please write 32.5 per week, (b) wage in
Australian dollars, please write 700 per week if there is no recent adjustment
from Dept of Edu, (c) name of employer, address, and phone number, please write
as advised by your manager.
In order to complete the requirements of Subclass 416 visa, you are
required to do the med check in the nearest appointed hospital, hold health
insurance cover, and posses a credit card for the visa application payment.
Medical Check Up
It’s a must for you to have your medical check up at the DIAC
appointed hospital which you may find the list on https://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-requirements/meeting-health-req.htm
Before you visit the nearest hospital, make sure you fill out
the documents on “My Health Declaration” on https://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/health-requirements/my-health-declarations.htm
at home or at the hospital if you wish. However, I noted that DIAC actually
advise you to do the health declaration at home so that you would have had your
HAP ID when you go to the hospital.
Please find the nearest hospital and make an appointment for
the medical check up. They usually would ask some questions related to your
visa, such as type of visa, initiated country, etc. There are only some
appointed hospitals in Indonesia .
To find the appointed hospital near you, please check http://www.immi.gov.au/contacts/panel-doctors/
The cost may be depending on the hospital, mine was quite cheap, it was
no more than 300 ribu, I reckon. Soon after you do the med check, the hospital
would send the result to DIAC. Should DIAC find something “witty” about your
health, they would reject it and advise you to redo the med check. Usually,
DIAC put higher concern on those who have got TB. You could check the status of
your medical check up admission by logging on to your health declaration page.
You would need to provide your username and password which you have received
early when you make your health declaration.
Health Insurance Cover
The company and type of cover are all up to you. Me
and my friends decided to use an Australian health insurance company called
Bupa to ease the administration thingy when we are in Australia . Don’t forget to tell the
company that you are going to use the cover for your stay in Australia so
you need an official letter from the insurance company stating that you are the
eligible holder of the visa cover.
Credit Card
No worries if you don’t have your own credit card. You are
basically allowed to use the credit card which is not yours as long as you
could possess his/her original signature.
To determine the amount of money that you should pay, you
gotta fill up the payment details in your application form. The further
information on the fees and charges, please see immi.gov.au/fees-charges
Bank Statement
You are required to have your own bank account. If
you already have one, go to the main office of the bank to have the official
bank statements, tell them that you need the bank statement to completing the
required documents of Australian visa application. Make sure you have some money
in your bank account. Have at least as much as your fortnightly pay.
Documentation
Before you lodge your application, make sure you have provided
all the required information and enclosed the demanded documents.
Letter of Invitation : soon after the manager from dept of edu contact
you, you would receive the official letter of invitation.
Curriculum Vitae : please please please be careful in providing
details of yourself. This time, you are not supposed to look too brilliant and
super-talented or super-experienced. DIAC would definitely reject your visa
application if they find that you have been working for more than a year or if
you are a pro teacher.
Insurance Letter : posses this document by contacting your insurance
company.
Bank Statement : posses this document by contacting your bank.
Full Birth Certificate, Family Register Document, Identity Card : please be advised that all those documents should be
in English. Go to the nearest language institute that can officialise your English-translated
documents.
Lodge your application by email to hobart.special.program@immi.gov.au
