EXPERIENCE IS BETTER THAN INTELLIGENCE
One day one
of my buddies asked me a question, “how important the score of GPA for you?”
Well, maybe for some people this question is very simple, but I bet you the
answer for this question is very complicated, more over if you are a student of
college which requires some certificates of organization experience to pass the
graduation easily.
Nowadays
experience certificates become an important requirement for some college or
academy or maybe university in Indonesia.
Some people said that, the certificates will be very useful for you if you want
to go on your life with some kinds of jobs which you are willing to apply. In
other hand some people also said that, the achievement list of GPA is more important,
there is no important reason for you to get study in higher education but
graduate from there with pride score of GPA.
This kind of perceptions spread
among the students and their parents. So it is not weird or odd if you meet
some students who have different perception of GPA with their parents. Before
we talk deeper about this problem, it would be better if we know who are the
actors of this problem and also their nature descriptions. Actually, there are
three actors in this case, the first actor is student, the second one is
company, and the last is university. Those actors have different nature each
other. Usually the natures of students (lets say in university) are want to get
something quickly (instant), simple, etc. the nature of companies are high
quality and professional lovers, need workers who have ability to mingle with
the others, etc. and the nature of university is as a provider of high quality
student.
Well, if we pay attention to those
nature descriptions actually we can see such kind of chain which can’t be success
if one of the parts is lost. The cycle is started from the company as a field
of dreams of the students. As I have told before company really need workers
who are professional, high quality, experienced, etc. they are providing jobs
for someone who has different/unique characteristic. The next part is university.
University is a bridge of company and students has a vital position in this
chain. The university should able to mold graduates who are fit with the
company requirements. The last part is student. Student should have all the
requirements that the company needed.
Based on the explanation above, we know that the most vital position is
company, where the graduates anchored. That is why the student and the company
should know what is the important point that the company looking for. Based on
the information in one site in internet, the most influential thing are
(structured from the most important); (1) able to use foreign language
(speaking/writing), (2) experienced in organization, (3) mastered/able to use
the computer and information technology, (4) good quality of GPA, (5) graduated
from well-know university. Those are the influential things for the company
when they are selecting the prospective workers for their company.
From the explanation above, we know
that the organization experience is more important than the good quality of
GPA. It means that the experience have a big part of role when the company
decide the prospective workers. Since that, the university and also the student
should go with the flow of that requirement. University should able to
mold/produce graduates who are experienced in organization. Logically if the
students are experienced in organization of course they are able to mingle with
other people, cooperate with other workers, etc. that’s why the company is
looking for the employee who has that ability.
Finally, we can conclude that
experience is better that intelligence in job fields. That’s why as a student
we have to prepare our self to be a person who has the criteria of the company
requires.
